In 1921 the state legislature appropriated $10,000 to erect a monument on the site of the signing of Florida’s first constituion. Several elderly individuals who remembered the building from their youth pinpointed the location of the hall’s podium. On this spot, a large stone monument was erected in 1922.

On January 13, 1923, the Apalachicola Times reported:

“Thursday A Glorious Day at Port St. Joe”

“A vast throng estimated at three thousand people gathered to do honor to the day and to the event…. Navy band, sea planes, stunt flying, dedication address Governor Cary A. Hardee; an abundant feast of barbecued meats, oysters in a variety of styles, fried fish, salads, hot rolls and coffee were served. The band assembled at the Port Inn from four to six pm for tea dancing. After supper dancing was enjoyed from eight until twelve. The Apalachicola Railroad operated special trains to take care of the numerous visitors.”
