Erected in 1925 of locally milled lumber, this outstanding example of frame vernacular architecture and craftsmanship is the oldest church building in Port St. Joe. The designer of the building is not known but local members of the congregation helped construct it, including Mr. Tapper, Mr. Eells, Mr. Comforter, and a Mr. Buzzett from Apalachicola. A high level of skill is exhibited in its proportions and levels of craftsmanship exhibit a high level of skill. Several design elements reflect a formal and classical style, including the central portico with large square but tapered columns with molded capitals, the centrally placed belfry with pyramidal roof, and arched top transoms over the main door and windows.

Before the church was constructed, Rev. Francis DeSales held services in the home of Captain and Mrs. Tapper. The church was dedicated by Bishop Allen, and Charles Brown and Ida Ethel Kilbourne were the first couple married here.

The church was in use until 1959 when a new church was built. The pine pews and a white marble alter were moved to a new church, and the building was vacant until the Port St. Joe Garden Club purchased it in 1968.
