17. First Drake House507 Reid Ave.
When Henry Drake came to Port St. Joe in 1914 to take a position with the Apalachicola Northern Railroad Company (and to play baseball), he described the town as quite “woodsy-like,” the entire area being covered with palmettos. Mr. Drake served as postmaster for over 30 years and built two small cottages on Reid Ave, in the 1930s. The first Drake House is now home to its current owner Mazie Stone, granddaughter of T.H. Stone, founder of Port St. Joe.
