18. Wewahitchka Courthouse200 N. Second St.
This handsome building was built by W.H. Taylor in 1927, two years after Gulf County was established from a portion of Calhoun County. While the building was being constructed, county business was carried on in the homes of the new county officials, especially that of the Clerk of the Circuit Court J.L. Hunter. The dedication of the courthouse in the summer of 1927 was a grand occasion for all ages—with stilt-walking, horseback riding, fishing, swimming, boating, and square dancing in the streets and on the courthouse lawn. The location of the county seat was changed to Port St. Joe in 1965. The Wewahitchka Courthouse was renovated in 1991.
